Marquee holds first event
Our new marquee is now up, and the club held its first event since the clubhouse roof was blown off in November 2021, on Friday
At South Shields and Westoe Sports Club, with our enduring legacy of over 173 years, we are dedicated to empowering individuals of all ages, inspiring them to embrace an active lifestyle and fostering a strong sense of community through the transformative power of rugby, cricket, tennis, and squash.
Thanks to the generosity of funders especially HAF South Tyneside, Sport England and the Peter Harrison Foundation, and the commitment of volunteers from all sports sections, the club runs free summer camps for 28 days each year during the summer holidays with a nutritious free lunch provided. These are particularly targeted to children from disadvantaged backgrounds with all sports sections offering bursary programmes to allow talented and committed opportunities to become long term members of the club.
The club runs free programmes in local primary schools providing free
coaching in different sports, focusing particularly on primary schools with high number of students eligible for free school meals. The club has funded All Stars cricket programmes at some of these schools, in addition to cricket and rugby sessions both in curriculum time and after school clubs.
The club is indebted to funders whose generosity has allowed the club to make an impact on young people in the community.

In response to the “cost of living crisis”, it was decided to make our camps free to all this year and not just to those
